So I may have to revise my opinion on Facebook…

I’ve been rather vocal in the past about my feelings regarding the on-again/off-again/on-again relationship that I’ve had with Facebook.  It’s noisy…  It’s invasive…  It OWNS your data and anything you post to some extent…  and I just generally find it annoying when I am finding myself increasingly forced to use it as a medium for communications with people that I’m trying to organize sessions with.

But for all of that, in the recent month or so, I have to admit that I have found one thing about Facebook that I really have grown to like.  It’s easy to find people.  It seems that EVERYONE is on Facebook.  And I’ve been able to find a few people that I’ve lost contact with over the years and have re-connected with them, once again becoming part of their lives, and letting them in on my life for the first time in as many as 30 years.

So to those that created Facebook, and those that have brought me back kicking and screaming to a membership on Facebook – my thanks.  If it weren’t for those die-hards and creative souls I would still not be in contact with some people that have been very dear to me in my life.  And yes – I know – if I don’t want anyone to know about something – Don’t put it on Facebook!  And I also know – if I don’t want to know something about someone else – Don’t read all of the stuff that’s posted on Facebook.  But you have to admit – it IS a little addictive.

So I’ll have to remind myself that my internet connection is speed limited – and transfer limited – for the next several months while i travel the country.  And if I get stuck on good ol’ FB too much for too long, I could be facing some serious charges when I get my mobile data billings.  So I’ll have to be good and stick to email and phone more than FB, but I’ll still poke my nose in once in a while and see who’s doing what and with whom and why, and wonder why I bothered to read those posts at all.  But I’ll also be chatting with some good friends from years gone by and will be able to make arrangements to visit when I’m in their part of Canada.

So remember – there is always something good in everything – no matter how ugly it may seem – and if I can find a reason to like Facebook – ANYONE can find a reason!

Cheers and Happy Social Networking!
